“Handmade” at Maison Pichon Uzès is not a trend, it is our treasure, our signature. The result of more than 200 years of transmission of knowledge and manufacturing techniques is our guarantee of quality and excellence.
We shape things by following a precise line of conduct established by our ancestors, with respect for the earth and our creations.
The ceramist must therefore master 4 elements: earth, water, air and fire.
He then gives birth to his creations; first with his own enamels. Then, he buys the raw materials (kaolin, quartz, pigments, oxides, etc.) in order to create a whole range of colors depending on the cooking he chooses, whether by oxidation or reduction.
He prepares the earth, lavas it, kneads it and removes foreign bodies before beginning its shaping (modelling, turning, casting). Then comes the drying and cooking which allows the vitrification of the pastes and the fixation of the colors.
If learning pottery is accessible to everyone, perfect mastery of this complex craft is nonetheless the result of a lifetime dedicated to it. This is the strength of the Pichon. The transmission. Eight generations working to create, invent, shape with their fingers and above all; pass on this ancestral know-how.
Through these creations entirely crafted by hand, it is the story of a place, of a house that we can guess, that of men and women with passionate hearts. Each of these creations is then imbued with a way of drawing, of modeling, of coloring, of mixing, of using raw material. A trademark recognizable by enthusiasts who pass on their acquisitions from generation to generation. A notion of inheritance initiated in 1802 and which will continue to continue in other families, elsewhere.
Our “hand-made” is ultimately our way of giving life to pieces that will survive us.
